Meet the Owner

My name is Natalie Rynda. I love MS Access, it’s been my passion for over 20 years. And I love creating custom apps and enjoy knowing that I made a difference in my clients’ lives, that I simplified their routines and saved them time.

The business is named after one my dogs, Kroka. He's on the right in the picture below. German shepherds, and all dogs, are another passion of mine.

I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. I then moved to New York city, USA, where I’ve lived for over 30 years. I’m bilingual, my native language is Russian and I'm fluent in English.

I have a few developers working with me, but I oversee all projects to make sure they’re up to my high standards.

My Background with MS Access

I first came across MS Access nearly 25 years ago. My father, who I once worked for, was using an MS Access application in his business, and a developer came in, every now and then, to make changes to it. Watching him work with the application piqued my interest and I quickly became obsessed with MS Access. It was mainly the ease of making changes and how, in front of my eyes, new features appeared.

MS Access (VBA) is a beautiful tool. It is so versatile and powerful and my obsession with it hasn't subsided one bit. Besides hundreds of business applications, I also created many impressive projects and automations using MS Access/VBA at my previous full time job of 13 years.

I'm now freelancing full time.

Always Available

We are available pretty much around the clock. We have clients around the world, in different time zones, and you will usually get a reply within a few hours. This goes for application support as well: we work on almost all holidays and weekends.

Why Choose Us?

01 User-friendly applications

We have over 20 years of experience working with small businesses, just like yours. We create applications that are:

  • User friendly
  • Well thought out
  • Easy to implement and use
  • Efficient and timesaving
  • Easily integrated with existing Microsoft programs
  • Packed with functionality

We make it a point to design our applications in a way that takes every little detail into consideration.

We spend time and effort on things like, hiding irrelevant buttons (irrelevant for current screen/task, not to clutter the application and not to confuse the user), making sure wherever possible to give you the option to both click and use keyboard keys, making sure the cursor automatically goes to the appropriate field, when a screen is opened, and a ton more little things which make working with the application much easier and enjoyable.

02 Built-in data validation rules

Clean data is very important, and our applications do everything possible to ensure this. The quality of your data will determine how useful your reports are, how much insight you can gather from analyzing them, and how easy it is to search and filter your database.

We add validation rules everywhere possible. While it can’t be eliminated (we can’t control spelling variations in free text fields), there is a way to minimize bad data in fields where we know the type of data to be expected.

For those types of fields, we either set them up as dropdowns (so the user must select a value, as opposed to being able to type his/her own), autofill them (for example, autofill city and state after the ZIP code is entered) or ensure that only certain values can be entered.

We also make sure that there are no unattached records, that bad records (missing critical fields) aren’t saved, and the user is given a prompt explaining what the problem is and is given a choice to fix the record or cancel.

We also have extensive experience working with bad data and writing automated solutions for cleaning it up.

03 Flawless data structure

Another very important part to building an application is the table structure. Various mistakes can be made which result in slower speed, dirty data, database size issues, feature limitations and not user-friendly applications. Making changes to these applications takes much longer than it should and, in some cases, some changes are possible at all without a full rewrite.

The tables in our applications are setup in perfect structure. That's important because the tables are the foundation of the application, which is just like the foundation of a house. If your foundation isn't up to par, the house you build on top of it will have multiple issues: some will come up right away, others down the road, when you want to make updates.

Same with applications. Properly built application starts with a proper foundation (table structure). This allows for clean data, tons of functionality, easy updates, and user-friendly, fast applications.

04 Personal Approach

There are no cookie-cutter solutions here, each application we develop is built from scratch, specifically for your business. There’s also free, unlimited support to ensure that it continues to run smoothly well into the future.

And we are sure that you will enjoy working with us. We are good at what we do, quick to understand your business, patient with people who aren’t technical, and just are pleasant all around 😊

EXPERIENCE

MS Access Database/Application Developer

Freelance

Aug 2002 - present

Recent notable projects

  • Developed an MS Access/VBA application for a warehouse with a unique workflow. Among the challenges was a very high-pressure environment (deadlines for some tasks were in minutes when the truck was waiting), lack of process documentation (had to figure things out myself under constant rushing) and a complex import procedure. The app functioned on data from various imports, extensive import error catching process had to be developed (they would get a list of errors after every import and an easy interface to fix them). In the end, the app automated all their daily tasks.
  • Developed an MS Access/VBA billing application for a financial advisement company. The app got most of its data from multiple imports, so an automated, user-friendly import process had to be developed which validated the data and provided information on import issues. It processed monthly reports and quarterly billing. Some data for each account was entered manually, so, many data cleanup procedures were developed to ensure that all accounts had all required fields filled in. If an account was still missing data at the time of sending out reports – the report wouldn’t go out and a notification popped up telling them what had to be filled in. It also stored historical data, gave them the ability to run report for previous periods and logged sending of the reports and bills.
  • Developed an MS Access/VBA application for a gym. The app allowed to time a training session, stored various workout regimens, each with a set of exercises, and on each session the trainer can record the reps and weights for each exercise. It also had a complex scoring algorithm to rank how the clients compares to others in the gym.

Responsibilities

  • Develop MS Access/VBA applications for various businesses.
  • Develop MS Access/Excel/VBA automation procedures.

Sr. Automation Specialist

MultiPlan PHCS Private HealthCare System, New York, NY

Jun 2008 – Sep 2021

Notable projects and achievements (in all of these, I managed full cycle of development from requirements to testing)

  • Designed, developed, and maintained 60 complex automated reports which could not be automated with our standard methods because of many layers of complexity (outside messy data, matching, complex Excel formatting, constant changes of criteria, etc.). I automated them using Oracle stored procedures, MS Excel VBA, and an MS Access/VBA front end. Automating these reports saves hundreds of hours of manual work per week and eliminates mistakes. My applications are still being used by the company.
  • Saved company $7,000 a month by recreating and automating a set of reports which used to be supplied by a vendor. The challenge was to reverse engineer their logic.
  • Designed and developed an MS Access/Oracle matching application which allows the user to easily match any outside data to company data using 4,000 field combinations. It provides the user with many configuration options and allows automated matching file uploads. It assigns a match strength % to each matched record and allows the user to set a threshold for the number of matches per record. This application saves tens of hours of manual work per project.
  • Automated a set of complex client reports which used to take weeks of manual work by various departments. The challenge was that these reports required data from external websites, which was not available for download, only to lookup. That data then had to be manually matched to ours and the reports had to pass state-supplied, complex validation process.
  • Developed an MS Access/Oracle application that scrapes the data from the websites, matches it against company data, creates reports, performs validation, and emails results. The reports now take 30 minutes to run and do not require any manual work.
  • Designed and developed an MS Access/Oracle automation and project tracker application. This application allowed for easy automation of any report, automated my workflow, it also automatically wrote SQL code for each project based on criteria selections, allowed for centralized changes to report logic, report configuration and distribution lists and performed many other tasks. The use of this application enabled me to consistently meet very tight client deadlines, minimized mistakes and saved me thousands of hours of manual work.
  • Designed and developed an MS Access/Oracle application for creating call campaigns. There were many challenges and complex output requirements. Each campaign used to take a few days of manual work. My application creates a campaign in 15 minutes and requires no manual work.
  • Because of my automation skills, to quote our department's VP, "I was doing the work of 3-4 people". It took 6 months for me to transition my work before I left, and they still contact me with questions.

Responsibilities

  • Developed complex ad hoc reports and applications based on specifications provided by requestors.
  • Analyzed data, looked for hidden patterns, developed algorithms and predictive models.
  • Worked with messy data from various sources (including databases, manual files, and external websites), cleaned it up and combined it accurately.
  • Developed and rewrote applications and SQL code to optimize and/or adapt to new requirements.
